Green

INT. DAY. Scene location Alice’s room

Wide shot of a room that looks like a hospital room but empty for the most part. The room is filled with a harsh white light. There are a metal frame bed and a chair in the room. A woman is sitting on the chair staring at one of the walls.

Close up of the woman’s face. We can see a reflection of lights in her pale face and pictures changing in her unblinking dark green eyes.

Loud sounds of people arguing, crying, and swearing fill the room.

Suddenly a door closes. The woman doesn’t react and continues staring at the wall.

Wide shot of the other side of the room, a tall and slim woman is standing in front of a closed white door without a handle. She’s wearing a dark green dress and is carrying a tray of pills of the same colour. The woman has no expression on her face, she looks dead behind the eyes.

Nurse: Mandatory 7 hours of unconsciousness are now over. It is now time for your first dose of stage two human emotion correction medication.- She has a sweet but robotic voice

Close up of the young woman slowly turning her head to face the nurse, tears are streaming down her cheeks but she doesn’t look upset.

Alice: Good morning, Green! - she grins at the nurse

Mid shot of the nurse putting another green pill on the tray. Close up of the pill spinning on the tray. Mid shot of the nurse’s face turn serious.

Nurse: 3.23, we do not use olden human greetings here. I will have to inform Him that stage one has turned out to be unsuccessful and we will have to repeat the procedure.

Close up of Alice’s face as she swiftly turns her head back to the screen, tears are now rolling out of her eyes.

Cut to a series of flashbacks of Alice being thrown about this same room, beaten, shouted at while tied up with a bright green rope, by four men dressed in jumpsuits of the same colour as the nurse is wearing. Each flashback cuts back to Alice’s miserable face now.

Alice: That will not be necessary. - She replies sternly - Please... don’t -She adds under her breath.

Wide shot. The nurse slowly walks towards Alice, she turns in the chair to face her. Close up. Alice opens her mouth and the nurse lays the four green pills on her tongue, Alice closes her mouth while staring at the nurse and swallows the pills.

Nurse: Be a good girl now 3.23, don’t be smart, don’t talk back, He will decide what is necessary.

Wide shot of the room and Alice sitting in the chair, facing the screen, you can hear the nurse walk out, the door slams.

Fade to black.

INT. DAY. Scene location office party

Fade to a wide shot of Alice in an open office, it’s decorated for Christmas, “Last Christmas” is playing, a bunch of drunk people are laughing, dancing, singing along, Alice is talking to another two women. A man approaches. He looks nervous, holding a glass of dark rum with ice in one hand and doesn’t know where to put his other hand. He is wearing a green Christmas jumper with a dog with antlers on it, he smells like cigarettes. He is tall, slim build, blonde messy hair. The other women walk away from Alice.

Mid shot of Alice and the man greeting each other.

Philip: Hey.. Umm work parties suck so much. - He runs his free hand through his hair.

Alice: Well, I would much rather be at home but I guess this is good for getting to know people from other departments, you know, sort of team building.

Philip: Yeah you’re right.. hey umm listen.. - He spills a little bit of his drink right on the jumper dog’s face - Do you want to like maybe go get a drink somewhere with me like after the holidays or something?

Alice’s face changes, she rolls her eyes, she’s suddenly irritated.

Alice (starts talking more quietly): Listen, Phil, we’ve been through this and I’m trying to be nice to you and I’m trying even harder to not make you feel bad but I’m going to tell you for the last time - she pokes her finger into his chest as her voice gets louder - I. DO NOT. LIKE YOU. LIKE THAT. OKAY? I won’t go anywhere with you anytime, ever, get it? I don’t understand how you won’t understand that I don’t owe you anything, I don’t even know you and the fact that I even feel bad for you and try my best not to make a big deal out of your obsession with me is just messed up!

Cut to a wide shot of the office party. Everyone has suddenly stopped what they were doing and are staring at Philip and Alice.
A colleague rushes in between both of them: Okay guys let’s all chill, Phil if you could take your creepy ass elsewhere that would be really nice.

Phil: Go fuck yourselves, seriously! - he walks up closer to Alice and whispers in her ear, his voice is shaking - You led me on, bitch and don’t think you will get away with your bullshit feminazi attitude this time.

Phil plants his empty glass on a nearby table and storms out of the office.

Colleague: Thank the Lord nobody from HR was here tonight. What an absolute weirdo. You okay, Alice? - she puts her hand on Alice’s shoulder.

Alice: Yeah, I’m fine, I think I’ll just head home. - she says under her breath and shrugs the colleague's hand off her shoulder.
Cut to mid-shot of Alice running down a poorly lit staircase crying.

Cut to Alice in a dark alleyway panting, hunching over, gasping for air. Suddenly somebody grabs her from behind holding her mouth shut, she is kicking and muffled screams are heard as the frame fades to black.

INT. DAY. Scene location Alice’s room

Cut to a wide shot of the brightly lit room Alice is being held captive in. She is lying in the bed, the screen is still running full volume.

Cut to mid-shot of the screen. It is a series of short videos in which Alice has been hurtful to people. A video of her mother sobbing after an argument, her younger brother picking up his books from his bedroom floor, muttering “I hate her, why is she always so mean to me” over and over again, Alice in school making fun of a girl with a bunch of her friends, and Philip, every single encounter she’s ever had with her colleague Philip.

Cut to mid-shot of Alice waking up in the metal frame bed. She opens her eyes and closes them again, her head hurts.

Cut to close up of Alice’s eyes, they’ve lost colour, they look cloudy. A door opens and closes out of frame, heavy steps approach, Alice doesn’t react to this she looks like she’s no longer in her own mind.

Cut to a mid-shot of a man sitting down in Alice’s bed. We don’t see his face at first. Cut to a close up of Philip’s face from Alice’s POV, the shot is blurry.

Philip: I had no choice. You were right there and you took the bait.

Alice’s point of view clears up. Cut to mid-shot of her sitting up in bed once she understands who’s come to visit her.

Alice: I don’t understand you. she says slowly and wraps her arms around her shoulders. What have I done to deserve this? What have I done to You?

Philip: See that’s the thing. he smirks and tilts his head. You’re all so obsessed with yourselves. It’s all about You, Alice, isn’t it? A world full of protagonists. You’re not special Alice. Everyone thinks they’re special, but you’re not. I picked you randomly, you don’t matter. My colleagues and I are working on creating a better human here. One that truly is compassionate and aware of their surroundings. We’ve been dulling your emotions and feeding you medication that will clear your memory completely and we will be able to start you off as a completely clean slate.

Alice: You’re not all there, Phil, are you? she gets more and more sluggish and words come out of her mouth slowly and quietly.

Philip: Funny, in this case you’re the one who’s actually not all there. he giggles. Anyway, Alice, thank you for your service. I will now inject you the final dose and it’ll be like you never existed and none of this meant anything. he lifts up a syringe filled with a green fluid. Have I ever told you that green is my favourite colour too? he injects her with the medicine and closes Alice’s eyelids.
Fade to black.

Fade to a wide shot of a room full of people in green pajamas. Mid shot of four of these people, they’re smiling creepily, they have emotionless eyes, they’re hugging each other and chanting something. Cut to a framed picture of Philip above the room full of happy zombie people.
